With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Alan Schrader Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Tom passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, in Mooresville, N.C., at the age of 72 with his wife and children by his side.
Tom was born in Ohio on October 27, 1951. His journey through life was marked by love, service, and a deep commitment to his family.
Tom’s professional life was dedicated to the automotive industry, where he excelled as a Finance Director. His hard work, dedication, and integrity were evident to all who worked with him. Outside of his career, Tom served his country with pride as a member of the United States Army and shared his love for sports as an all-star player in minor league baseball.
He found his greatest joy in his 49-year marriage to his loving wife, Gwendolyn Louise Schrader. Together, they raised three children – Karen Jenkins (Brian), Thomas “Tom” Schrader Jr. (Kelly), and Lisa White (Josh). Tom was a doting grandfather to Ashlee, Kyle, Finley, and Elle, imparting wisdom, and laughter in equal measure.
Tom’s passion for the outdoors was unmistakable, with fishing off the North Carolina coast being among his favorite pursuits. His spirit for adventure was also seen in the numerous trips he enjoyed with his family. Known for his generous heart, Tom was always ready to help those in need, touching numerous lives along the way.
His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. Yet we find comfort in the memories and the love he shared so freely. Tom’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to live on in those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date. The family kindly requests donations to Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting Tom’s deep love for helping others, especially children in need.
Tom will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
