Thomas Keith Abernethy, 64, of Union Grove, N.C., passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Mr. Abernethy was born in Virginia Beach, Va., on August 15, 1958, the son of the late Wayne Abernethy and Margie Menscer Abernethy Everhart. Keith was a graduate of Statesville High School. During his school days, he was an excellent baseball player and enjoyed many tennis tournaments. Later in life, he was the manager and cook at the Waffle House. Keith enjoyed the opportunity the restaurant business gave him to meet new people and travel to other towns while working for Waffle House. He enjoyed history and always loved talking about his past. He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed getting together for birthdays and holidays.

In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Janelle Propst Abernethy; and his grandparents, Kenneth and Helen Abernethy, and Rex and Estelle Menscer.

Those left to cherish the life and memory of Keith Abernethy include his siblings, Rhonda Abernethy (Steve) Hunt, Paula Abernethy (Robert) Woody, Darin (Lynnette) Warren, James Warren, and Scott (Angela) Warren. Also, surviving is his aunt (who was like a sister), Terresa Menscer Trivette and her husband Mike Trivette. Mike took care of Keith’s needs when he was no longer able. Keith had several surviving nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Troutman Funeral Home. Reverend Sarah Fisher will officiate. The family will visit with friends following the service and at other times will assemble at the home of Paula Woody.
