Virginia Cathryn Wolf, 79, passed peacefully surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Born and raised a coal miner’s daughter in Fairdale, W.Va., she was the sixth of 11 children. At 19, she rode a Greyhound bus across the country to join her sister, Joy, and brother-in-law, living near Vandenberg Air Force Base. There she met her husband of 60 years, Fred Wolf. Zigzagging the country following Fred’s career, they raised three daughters in Gautier, Miss.
After she worked for many years taking care of children, “Ms. Cathy” started Kids Count Daycare in Gautier, Miss. Anyone that met Cathy instantly knew she that she was full of love for her family and the Bible, and she was genuinely a good soul.
Later, moving to Woodlawn, Va., Cathy and Fred built their dream home on a mountain top, where they enjoyed 20 years of retirement, doting on their grandchildren and being active members of Great Hope Baptist Church. In 2019, they moved to Statesville, N.C., to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
This loyal wife, mother, sister, and friend is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Faye Bailey Bunch; her grandson, Trever Poole; sister, Carol Sava; and brother, Dwain Bunch.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick Wolf; daughters, Christina Wolf, Deborah (Jim) Norton, and Kimberly Poole; grandchildren, Megan (Matthew) Gallagher, Sarah Norton, and Tyler Poole; and great-grandson, Xavier Poole; along with many cherished siblings, family, and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon with Chaplin Teresa Smith Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery.
