We had to say goodbye to William “Bill” Armour on September 7, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home, which was his wish. This was made possible through the loving and wonderful care given by his wife of 61 years, Gail. He was her top priority, and she unselfishly put everything else on hold.
Bill was born in Statesville on August 28, 1935, to Eleanor and Allen Armour. He was a graduate of Catawba College. Bill cultivated lifelong friendships at Integon (GMAC) Insurance, from where he retired with over 30 years of service. He possessed a quick and dry wit, which was endearing. He spoke his truth and offered his opinions frankly and colorfully. Being an instigator of foolishness, his favorite quote was, “I may not always be right, but I’m never wrong!”
Bill was an avid reader. He liked nothing better than sitting down with a good book, a glass of wine and one of Gail’s delicious homecooked meals.
Bill’s recreational passion was fishing at Panama City Beach and Coastal North Carolina. He spent several weeks a year there with close friends and fellow fisherman. He was also an avid fan of UNC sports.
In addition to his wife Gail, Bill is also survived by his son, Lewis Brown Armour; his sister, Nancy Frankhouser; and his brother, Shelton Armour.
Bill will be missed. Per his request, there will be no formal funeral services. The family wishes to thank Trellis Supportive Care.
The family asks that memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, or to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family.
