Mr. William Tyrone Lowery Sr., 52, was born in Mooresville, N.C. on December 31, 1970, to the late Freddie Kent Cornelius and the late Beryline Lowery Gray. He departed this life on Monday, January 9, 2023.
Tyrone graduated from Statesville High School with the Class of 1989 and attended Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C. He loved playing and watching basketball and football. At a young age, he was a member of Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, James “Whimp” Gray; grandparents, Alberta Blackwelder Lowery and Napolean Theodore Lowery Sr.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his four children, William Tyrone Lowery Jr., Tylia Monet Lowery, Tyquan Lowery, and TeLiea Lowery, all of Statesville; one brother, Freddie Kent Cornelius Jr. of Dallas; three sisters, Audrilla D. Lowery of Statesville, Shirlyn Sloan Heilig of Salisbury, and Drina Torrence of Mooresville; two aunts, Sylvia Dianne Lowery of Statesville and Maryline Lowery Willson of Greensboro; two uncles, Napolean T. (Phyllis) Lowery Jr. of Mooresville and Allen B.(Grace) Lowery of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren, Tyreck Lowery, Tasia Lowery, Tazia Lowery, Tymorrie Lowery, Caloni Lowery, Kalel Ramik Lowery, and Keon Lowery; special niece and nephew, LaKedra Lowery and Bobby D. “BJ” (Telia) Holmes Jr.; special cousins, Terry “Sport” Lowery of Greensboro and Ryan O’ Smith of Maryland; his “cousin sister” as he would call them Likuana Lowery Mozer, Shonda Lowery, Danielle Lowery and Amanda Lowery; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville. The visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Apostle Carl D. Lykes will officiate, and Bishop Reggie L. Brown Sr. will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Belmont Cemetery. Family will an assemble at the residence of his nephew, Bobby D. “BJ” (Telia) Holmes Jr., 603 Brevard Street, Statesville.
