Allen “Mac” Lee McCary, 91, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at his home after a period of declining health.
Allen was born on April 29, 1932, in Saluda, S.C., son of the late Julian L. McCary and Maggie Hall McCary. He was a member of Troutman Baptist Church. Allen was co-owner of Rogers Motors and owned The Percolator Restaurant. He retired from the U.S. Air Force following twenty-three years of service.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma “Pearl” Leasher McCary; his brothers, Iredell McCary, Henry Bell McCary, James McCary, Edward McCary, and Bennie McCary; and sisters, Estelle Spearman, Sagaret Louise Scott, Erline McLendon, Doris Perry and Rosalind Turner.
Those left to cherish Allen’s memory include his children, Peggy McCary Menster (Ted), Allen “Al” McCary Jr. and Julie Ann McCary; grandchildren, Robert Melendez, David McCary, Andrea Menster Donaldson (Jim), Kimberly Menster Benfield (Clark); and great grandchildren, Dylan Donaldson, Caleb Donaldson, Oaklyn Donaldson, Carsyn Benfield, Logan Benfield, Avery Benfield, Easton Benfield and Ryker J.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 25, 2024, at Troutman Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Stevenson officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County at 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
