Barbara Sue Cook Deviney, 77, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born July 11, 1947, in Iredell County, daughter of the late Granville and Mary Gibson Cook.

Barbara was a member of Eufola Baptist Church in Statesville for over 50 years. She enjoyed gospel singings and spending time with her family and church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Mason, and brother, Jerry Cook.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Raymond Deviney; sons, Raymond Ray Deviney Jr. (Shirley) and Christopher “Scott” Deviney (Cindy); grandchildren, Jake Deviney, Emily Langenstein (Maverick), Brandon Deviney (Lindsay), and Luke Deviney; great-grandchildren, Cody Langenstein, Jude Deviney, and Lenya Deviney; brother, Dr. Alton Cook (Hilda); and sister, Marcell Souther. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 4 p.m. at Eufola Baptist Church. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the church.

Per Barbara’s request, please do not send flowers. Money can be sent to help fund the home health care of her “little man.”
