Barbara Jean Williams, 80, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Vernon Hills, Ill., entered into Eternal Rest and was reunited with her beloved husband on July 18, 2024. She was a fierce fighter until the very end.

Born February 7, 1944, in Richmond, Va., to Luther Barry and Dora May White, she was preceded in death by her husband Allen in 1996, and she missed him dearly. The family finds peace knowing they are now reunited.

Barb was the ultimate politician and never met a stranger. She served as a Trustee and the Mayor of the Village of Vernon Hills for over 30 years. She was also a Branch Manager at First Student Inc. for over 20 years, getting up at 3 o’clock in the morning sometimes to make sure the buses were running, until she retired in 2014. She was a founding member of Christ Lutheran Church in Vernon Hills and became an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mooresville when she moved to North Carolina in 2017.

Her grandsons were her greatest joy. She had many health issues over the years, but she got a new lease on life when they were born. She enjoyed spoiling them with everything from candy to toys. They think she hung the moon and are devastated to lose their Grandma B.

Her legacy lives on in her daughter, Cindy Strom and husband Daniel, grandchildren, Luke and Jack, and many friends who are family.

Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Vernon Hills, Ill., on Saturday, August 31. More information to come. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Rare Disease Day.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Williams family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
