Barbara Mae Scott passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Friday, July 26, 2024, following a lengthy illness. Ms. Scott was born in Iredell County, N.C., on September 27, 1954, and was the daughter of the late Robert L. & Dorothy Summers Scott.

Affectionately named “Poochie,” Barbara attended Iredell-Statesville Schools and was a graduate of North Iredell High School. She was employed by Denso, formerly known as ASMO, for many years before her illness. Being an outgoing member of her community, Ms. Scott was a lifetime member of the Holsey Memorial CME Church, serving faithfully within the church community as a member and participant of the Usher Board, Missionaries Society, and various church choirs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, David and Ora Mae Scott, and Bert and Mary Holmes Summers; a sister, Julia Ann Scott; a brother, Charles Anthony Scott; and brothers-in-law Larry E. Tomlin and DeWayne McCullough.

She leaves behind to cherish the memories of her life a loving son, Dennis Scott of the home; four sisters, Francine McCullough, Robin Scott Tomlin, Marilyn (Archie) Darty, and Crystal Scott; a brother, Robert (Margaret) Scott; and special siblings, a sister Darlene (Pete) Miller and pecial brother Larry McIntosh. Ms. Scott had a host of nieces and nephews, including Tashika Tomlin, Andre (Donna) McCullough, Keidra McCollough, Anthony Scott, Larry K. Tomlin, Charles Scott, James Scott, Robinette Scott, Kyra Tomlin, Diamond (William Worley) Scott, Ashley Scott and special great grand niece and nephew , Bella Grace and Julian Scott, who knew her as Auntie Mamaw, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, Dorian McCullough, Gerren Tomlin, Dalten McCullough, Ki’mora Scott, Elijah Krider, James Scott, Bubbie Mintz, Dredon McCullough, Kelan Scott, Khain Rain Tomlin, Drake McCullough, Rona Charlie Scott, and Cairo Vasquez, as well as special cousins Fred Scott, Edwin Scott, Teresa Norman, Debbie Ann Adams, Traci Summers, Freddie Morrison, Joan Daniels, Josephine Miller, Ora Daniels-Merritt, John and Eva Daniels, Elaine Brown, Jo-Evelyn Summers, Angela (Robert) Long and children, Diane (Germaine) Woods and children, Derrick and Chris Griffin, Trivia (Eric) Sharpe, Robin Griffin, Trevis Morrison and Regenia Morrison-Skinner, special friends, Dolliethaer Daniels, Essie Paterson McNeil, Anita Gray, Pam and Ryan Turner, as well as a host of cousins and other relatives, church family, neighbors, and friends, Shelby and Wesley Davis, Pat and Ralph Dalton, Jessie Summers, Agnes Imes and a special nephew, Eric Grant.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Holsey Memorial CME Church with Rev. Jeffery Daniels officiating. A burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Ms. Scott will remain at Nicholson Funeral Home until taken to the church to Lie in State at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church but will assemble at the residence at other times.
