Benny Suttle Mann Jr. peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 27, 2024, after a brief illness. Born in Mooresville, N.C., on October 27, 1934, he was the son of Benny and Robbie Mann, residing in his favorite town for almost ninety years.

Benny graduated from the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) in Morganton, N.C., where he met his wife Dorothy. Longtime members of Southside Baptist Church, they shared a love of church, cats, and traveling. They could often be found on the road to visit family, beaches, mountains, and National Parks. Benny was beloved by all who knew him, making his daily rounds to local banks, to the Tribune office, and to Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory to close up promptly at 5 p.m.

Benny was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; his brother, Tennyson W. Mann (Margaret); his sister, Vivian M. Dorsey (Frank); and his niece, Joannie Fuller.

He is survived by his nephew, Myron T. Mann (Victoria) of Adelaide, Australia; his nieces, Dona C. Mann (John) of Charlottesville, Va., and Anne Dorsey of Pinehurst, N.C. Also adored by Benny were his eight great nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at Glenwood Memorial Park on Tuesday, July 30, with a memorial service planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southside Baptist Church, NCSD, or any local pet rescue.

“There comes a time in the spiritual journey when you start making choices from a very different place. And if a choice lines up so that it supports truth, health, happiness, wisdom and love, it’s the right choice.” – Angeles Arrien
