Betty Ann Martin, daughter of the late Vernon Martin and Pauline Thomas Martin, was born in Iredell County, N.C., on July 30, 1944. She left us on March 28, 2024, to meet our Heavenly Father.
Betty attended school in Wilkes County and was a member of South Iredell AME Zion Church. She was known for her smile that would light up a room and welcoming all with open arms. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter, “Little Hugh” and Margaret Martin; a grandson, Taiwan Westmoreland; five sisters, Mary Lou Westmoreland, Aletha Torrence, Joyce Wilson, Catherine Almond, and Lorene McBride; and five brothers, Bobby Martin, Allen Martin, Robert Martin, Vernon Martin, and Howard Martin.
Ms. Betty Martin leaves to cherish the memory of her life her children, Sharon Westmoreland of Yadkinville, Tamera Martin of Troutman, Willie John Martin of Yadkinville, and Angela Westmoreland of Yadkinville; one sister, Margaret (Arthur) Canady of Mooresville; five brothers, Rex (Lillian) Martin of Booneville, Johnny (Sally) Martin of Wilkesboro, Jefferey Martin of Hickory, Albert Martin of Booneville, and Alfred Martin of Statesville; twelve grandchildren, Darrell Martin, Tawana Westmoreland, Wynethia Martin, Whitley Martin, Rashawn Gaither, Antonio McClelland, Shakira Alvarado, Rahsum Martin, Nathan Hampton, Lukas King, Justice Long, and Neveah Martin; two honorary grandchildren, Carlos Transou II and Scottie Hutchens; five great grandchildren, Langston Rice, Olyvia Martin, Makai Martin, Prince Ellis, and Amarra Alvarado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 2 p.m. at South Iredell AME Zion Church, Troutman, N.C. Visitation will be from t to 2 p.m. at the church, and burial will follow in the South Iredell AME Zion Church Cemetery.
