In loving memory of Betty Jean Elam, a beloved member of the Mooresville, N.C., community, who passed away on July 31, 2024, at the age of 96. Betty was born on June 26, 1928, in Iredell County, N.C., to parents Lester and Anna Massey Alexander.
Having attended Celeste Henkel and Mitchell Community College, Betty found her passion as a talented seamstress, working at Magla Products and later exploring roles in childcare and food services. She deeply cherished her faith journey, initially starting at Beulah Baptist Church before becoming a dedicated member of Wiggins Road Baptist Church in Mooresville.
Betty’s joyful spirit shone through her love for N.C. State, the Atlanta Braves, admiration for Betty Boop, and appreciation for Dale Earnhardt. She was a devoted reader and often expressed her affection with the endearing phrase, “Hey pretty lady.”
Betty’s world revolved around her family, including her children, Sandra Rochester, Robin Reynolds (Mark), and Penny Ludwig (Robbie), as well as her grandchildren, Tracey Lawing, Kelly Lawing, Carl Rochester Jr. (Sarah), Daniel Rochester, David Ludwig (Emily) and Wesley Ludwig (Morgan), great-grandchildren, Storm Conaway, Savannah Jones, Jacey Keener, Colby Rochester and Lyla Ludwig and great-great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jullian and Ava Campos. Betty is also survived by a sister, Fern Morrison. She had a special place in her heart for her late dog, Woody.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Stroud, Joe Rogers, and Jim Elam, as well as her son Reggie Stroud and siblings, Mildred Graham, Berlene Cook, Parks Alexander, Sara Doris Alexander and Jimmy Alexander.
Betty leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and warmth. Her Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel in Mooresville with interment at Glenwood Memorial Park to follow.
In honor of Betty’s memory, the family welcomes donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
