Captain Branson M. Inscore, 27, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident in Thomson, Ga., on August 25, 2024. He was born in Iredell County on October 25, 1996, to Ted and Jill Inscore.

Branson treasured his childhood—he learned the land, life lessons, and spent his days in the garden and on the swing with his Pap. Branson made his most important decision at fourteen years old, after much thought and contemplation, when he asked Jesus into his heart. He graduated from West Iredell High School in 2015 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies with Minors in Music and History at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019. After graduating, Branson worked as the John Blundell Fellow for the John William Pope Foundation.

Branson joined the United States Army on February 16, 2021, selected to enter the prestigious Fort Moore Officer Candidate School. After completing OCS, the Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course, Airborne School, and Ranger School, Branson joined the historic 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (1FURY) of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. While there, he served in multiple leadership roles, including Brigade Planner, Rifle Platoon Leader, and Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader. Branson was also awarded the “True Blue” Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Chilian Parachutist Wings.

Branson was a gifted musician, avid outdoorsman, voracious reader, brilliant writer, and a leader of men. His favorite place on earth, besides the swing on his family farm, was Paradise Valley, Montana—the American West had his heart.

In addition to his parents, Branson is survived by his sister, MacKaden “Mac” Inscore of Statesville; his grandmother, Peggy Inscore of Statesville; his girlfriend, Julia Martin; four aunts, Luanne Stone (Greg), Sherwin Washburn (Harry), Tonda Redmond, and Doris Crotts (Kirby); two uncles, Bart Johnson (Sharon) and Joey Inscore. He is also survived by numerous cousins; his Carolina boys; his music buddies; and countless soldiers and paratroopers with whom he served his country.

A celebratory service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 30, at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Burgess officiating.
