Charlene Lois Cudnohowski Thompson, 85, of Statesville, N.C., died on January 16, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Born in Milwaukee, Wis., on September 4, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Emil Cudnohowski and Sophie Kempka Cudnohowski. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David E. Thompson; a son, David R. Thompson; and one of her beloved fur babies, Roxy.
She worked as a cashier at Publix and enjoyed singing, was a jokester and loved to make people laugh, enjoyed word searches, jigsaw puzzles, camping and bowling. She also loved her fur babies, Abby and Tink. She was a true chocoholic and made everyone in the family brownies for their birthdays. Her favorite thing to do was read her Bible.
Survivors include a son, John Thompson; daughters, Belinda Rowe and Audra Pina (Stephen). All siblings of her preceded her in death, Genevieve Rozmarynowski, Lorraine Dutcher, George Cudnohowski, Joanie Kotes and Jimmy Cudnohowski.
Charlene also has 13 grandchildren, including her special grandkids, Michael Conda, Kenny Conda, Mandy Sadowski, and Andy Rowe; and eight great grandchildren, including her special greats, Sophie Sadowski, Khloe Sadowski, Zack Sadowski, and Maddie Sadowski, who always made sure that their Grandmama got her chocolate milkshakes from JayBee’s. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews who called her “their fun favorite auntie.”
Services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, January 28, at 3 p.m. at The Cove Church in Mooresville with Pastor David Porter officiating. Her remains will be placed at the National Cemetery in Salisbury.
Memorials may be given to help the family with funeral costs and may be sent to the home at 125 Teak Drive, Statesville, NC 28625.
