Charles “Chaz” Edgar Richards, 74, of Statesville, N.C., passed away as a result of an auto accident on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1950, to Edgar E. Richards and Jane C. Morgan Richards in Youngstown, Ohio.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Judith VanHise.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Georgia Perrett Richards of Statesville, N.C.; daughter, Angel Rich (Frank) of Stanly, N.C.; son, Greg Richards of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandchildren, Vance Rich (Mitzy) and Marissa Rich; great grandchildren, Adelynn, Xoey, Drake and Nolan; and a brother, Arthur Richards.

Charles was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown, Ohio, and a Youngstown State alum. He retired on March 9, 2010, from Thomas Steel Strip in Warren, Ohio, where he worked as the manager in the anneal temper department. After retirement, he worked as the head of security at Elmer’s in Statesville, N.C., and most recently as a private contractor delivering vehicles for the Randy Marion Auto Group of Statesville.

Charles belonged to the Grand Lodge F.&AM. of Ohio, Western Star Lodge No. 21, Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Grand Counsel Royal & Select Masons of Ohio Beuchaner Counsel 107, Saint John’s Commandery No. 20 and Order of the Knights Templar. He was also a volunteer with Relay for Life and the Carolina BalloonFest.

Visitation for Mr. Richards will be held at Western Avenue Baptist Church on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with Dr. Andy Lackey officiating. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
