Charlot Lorene Fox McCoy, 81, of Statesville, N.C., passed from this life into eternal life on Thursday, June,6, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness. She was born in Iredell County on May 15,1943, to the late Ralph Charlotte Fox and Lorene Francis Benfield Fox. She was also preceded in death by a son, Brian McCoy, and two brothers, Dennis Fox and Boyce Fox.

Charlot was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School and Davis Hospital School of Nursing. Her compassionate nature was instrumental in her nursing career. She had many opportunities as an RN to care for others with pediatrics being one of her favorites. She also had opportunities to work as a nurse in New Jersey, a nursing home in Louisiana, and hospitals in Dunn and Pinehurst, N.C. Later she worked with Hospice of Iredell County (now Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County).

Charlot and her husband Larry also spent 32 years as missionaries with the International Mission Board, SBC, serving in Panama, Mexico, and an assignment with the Caribbean Itinerant Team. Charlot loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing her testimony with others. She was concerned about people and their need to come to know Jesus. She had a generous heart, loved working with children at VBS, and with women’s ministries. Her love of music was evident as she loved playing the piano. A very important part of the foundation of her spiritual life was prayer.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 58 years, Larry McCoy; a daughter, Kathryn Lane (Jimmy); three grandchildren: Joshua McCoy, MaryKate McCoy (Grant Mayes), and Adriana McCoy Quintana; a sister, Shelby Benfield; and a lifelong friend, Pat Ostwalt. There are also numerous nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church, Old Mountain Road, Statesville. Pastor Brian Burgess will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
