Mrs. Darlene Hicks Myers, 62, passed away May 12, 2024, at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
The eldest daughter of Grady Hicks and Mary Holland Hicks, Darlene was born on August 14, 1961 in Iredell County. She grew up in Statesville with her parents and younger sister, Melissa, and spent most of her life in Statesville before moving to Belmont, N.C.
She married her husband, Dwayne Myers, on May 2, 2003, and enjoyed 21 years with him and their
daughter.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, canning, and caring for her animals—especially her birds and her two dogs, Bela and Millie. She always looked forward to vacations to the beach and to the mountains. But most of all, Darlene loved spending time with her beloved family and friends. She loved spoiling her two grandsons, Edziu and Josef, and was proud to be called their “Mimi.” She also enjoyed a very close relationship with her grand-niece, Kaydence Lambert. A loyal and generous woman, Darlene did her best to look after everyone in her life and often took on the role of caregiver whenever one of her loved ones needed her.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Dwayne Myers; her daughter, Katrina Myers; her son in-law, Edward Mikula; and grandsons, Edward “Eziu” Mikula IV and Josef Mikula. She is also survived by her sister, Melissa Tilley; brother in-law, Billy Tilley; grand-niece, Kaydence Lambert; and her best friends, Terry Reid and Tina Mcdaniels.
She was preceded by her parents, Grady and Mary Hicks.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Bright Light Baptist Church with Pastor Jayson Fox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
