Mr. David Michael Hawthorne, 38, of Statesville, N.C. passed away unexpectedly due to a car accident on Thursday, August 1, 2024. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va., on June 5, 1986, and was the son of Bernice Cynthia Spriggs Hawthorne and the late David Richard Hawthorne Sr.
“Big Mike,” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a graduate of Alexander Central High School. He was talented on the drums, keyboard and other musical instruments, and was a former member of New Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville, N.C.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, in addition to his mother, Bernice Cynthia Spriggs Hawthorne of Statesville; one daughter, Lia Nicole Hawthorne of Taylorsville; one brother, David (Kisha) Hawthorne Jr. of Statesville; two sisters, Cynthia (Terry Kelly) Hawthorne of Statesville and Michelle Renee Hawthorne of Winston Salem; Tiffanie Michelle Lackey, mother of Lia; nephews and nieces, Aaliyah Feimster, Alexis Smith, Krislynn Hawthorne, Kaleque Collins and Ahjanaye Collins; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be conducted, Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
