Delores Leona “Lori” Black Echerd, 86, of Statesville, N.C., died Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Brookdale – Peachtree after a period of declining health.

She was born in Raleigh County, W.Va., on January 27, 1938, to the late Gid Dane Black and Ivory Mae Bolen Black. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Echerd; two sisters, Laura Warner and Brenda Adams; and three brothers, Lowell Black, Gid Black Jr., and Ernest Black.

Lori was a long-time member of Welcome Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for several years. She also sang with the church quartet, and they ministered to many area nursing homes and sang at other places. In addition to being a great seamstress, Lori was a great mom who loved her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Steve Echerd (Jane); a daughter, Deborah Cook; three grandchildren, William Weymouth, Angie Weymouth, and Jennifer Hoag; two great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Salem and Kaitlin Salem; a sister, Barbara Bennett; and a brother, Johnny Black.

Lori will be laid to rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
