Donald L. Campbell, known fondly as Don, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 27, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on February 25, 1942, in Norman, Ark., to the late Charles and Erma Campbell, Don grew up imbued with a strong work ethic and deep-seated family values.

His heartfelt love story with his wife Mary Beth spanned over six decades, characterized by shared dreams and unwavering support through life’s myriad challenges. Don and Beth, high school sweethearts, spent their lives growing together in love and companionship.

After high school, Don ventured to Boutte, La., where he embarked on a fulfilling career at Union Carbide, retiring after 32 years as a respected operator. Retirement ushered them to North Carolina, nearer to four of their beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Conner, Hannah, Jonathan, Alyssa, Jacob, Emma, Alaina, and Liam, and great-grandchild Rose, who brought boundless joy and laughter to his life.

In addition to his family, Don is survived by his loving sister, Sandra (Paul); sisters-in-law Jean and Paula; numerous nieces and nephews, and his cherished children, Donald Jr., Jeffery, Crystal, and April. Beyond his roles as husband and father, Don had a passion for golf, and he could fix and grill just about anything; his talents were loved by many.

Don was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua; brothers, Marion (Mickey), Charles and Ronald, who died during Vietnam as a crew chief; and sons-in-law, Michael Longson and Charles Breaux.

As we gather to remember and celebrate his remarkable life, a service in memory and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville. The ceremony will be officiated by Landon Horton, a tribute to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved.
