Donna Thompson, 60, of Mooresville, N.C., went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Donna was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Bruce Thompson; sister, Pamela Johnson; parents, Lathan “Lake” Thompson and Jeanette Williams; grandparents, Nannie Moore and Elbert Moore and EF and Edith Thompson.

Donna and Bruce never had kids of their own, but they loved their nieces and nephews like their own. They also had a deep love for their dogs, Max, Jill, and Sassy, who they treated like children.

To know Donna was to love her. You always knew how she felt, but she never wanted you to ever forget how much she loved you. She would give you that smile and say, “I love you bunches and bunches!” as she hugged you tight.

Donna is survived by her siblings, Glenda Erwin (Randy), Linda Mundy, Ricky Thompson (Julie), Bryan Thompson (Lisa), Chrisanna Brown (Ricky), and Dana Gulledge (Kenny); and many nieces and nephews (and greats too).

Donna had some very special people in her life in the last few months helping to care for her. Her cousin, Selena Small, helped to get Donna to her appointments and sat with her daily. Her niece, Tabitha Brown, was with Donna every evening, helping with housework and loving on her.

The family would like to thank the S. Mack Mitchell Hospice House staff for their incredible care and service during Donna’s time there.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, November 12, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Community Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in the church cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Smith officiating.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Thompson family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
