Doris Jean Cook Williams, 101, of Statesville, N.C., went to be with the Lord at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Doris was born in Rowan County on March 24, 1923, to the late James Albert Cook and Luna Sherrill Cook, and was the youngest of 14 children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Pearl Harbor veteran Charles Brandon Williams Sr., who passed away on February 17, 2003.

Doris attended D. Matt Thompson High School and Statesville Business College and was employed in the cost accounting department of Kewaunee Scientific Corp. for 27 years. She was a long-time member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards and board games, doing crossword puzzles, reading, baking, and traveling. Her poodle, Rowdy, also brought her great joy.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Sandie Cloaninger Shepherd Mueller (Phil), who lives in Denver, N.C.; and her son, Charles Brandon Williams Jr., who has resided with her in Statesville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Christopher Scott Cloaninger, Tami Williams, Jason Williams, and Misty Minchello; four great-grandchildren, Darryan Finerson-Williams, Amaya Williams, Shianne Williams, Maya Soleil Williams Van Oudenallen, and one great-great-grandchild, Eli CarreonWilliams, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Christopher Scott Cloaninger, Jason Williams, Darryan Finerson-Williams, Andrew Collins, Todd Brown, and Eddie Pitchford.

Per the family request, memorials can be made in the name of Doris C. Williams to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or to S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House, 1325 Mecklenburg Highway, Mooresville, NC 28115.

The family sincerely thanks all those who gave such wonderful love and care to their mother during these last few months.
