Dwight Edison Templeton, 73, of Hamptonville, N.C., died Sunday, March 31, 2024, at his home.
He was born in Iredell County on May 13, 1950, to the late Raymond Templeton and Myrle Sharpe Templeton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dona Wood Templeton, and a brother, James Templeton.
Dwight worked for Southern Screw Company for several years and then for Carolina Mills, where he was once named Employee of the Year. He loved fishing, hunting, watching sports on TV, especially the Tar Heels and NASCAR. Dwight enjoyed his yearly trips to the mountains to fish and going to Mt. Airy for Mayberry Days. One of the things that brought him the most happiness was raising a huge garden and sharing the vegetables with friends, neighbors and folks in the community. He also had a fondness for animals and children, and the children were drawn to him because of this.
Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Carl Templeton; two sisters, Carol Templeton and Mildred McDaniels (Joe); a sister-in-law, Peggy Ann Templeton; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Winthrop Friends Church with Rev. Jerry Ireland and Pastor Georgianne Hartline officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Winthrop prior to the service.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Templeton family.
Carol, Carl and Mildred: My thought and prayers are with all of you at this sad time. Dwight will long be remembered. He was a quiet gentle soul. Years ago he used to help us in tobacco.
