Edward “Chip” Barry Durkin, 78, of Troutman, N.C., passed away in his home on Sunday, January 7, 2024. He was the husband of the late Sandra Durkin, and the son of the late Edward Weller and Loretta Wanda Nolewak Durkin. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Lee Durkin.
He was a graduate of Palmyra High School. On October 19, 1969, he married the love of his life, “Sandy.” Chip proudly served in the United States Army for 26 years, and later in life became a member of the VFW Post 2031. Over the years Chip held many titles in his profession, but mainly was employed as an auto and diesel technician specializing in heavy equipment. A handyman at heart, Chip loved working on cars and other vehicles, and he was always fixing something.
Chip was a loving husband, son, father, and “Pop Pop.” He was beloved by his family, had many friends, and was often referred to as the the nicest guy you will ever meet.
He is survived by one son, Barry Durkin, and daughter-in-law Lorraine Durkin, of Hainesport, N.J.; one daughter, Jeneane Durkin of Mooresville, N.C.; one granddaughter, Riley Ciocco. also of Mooresville, N.C.; and one brother, Ronald Durkin, and sister-in-law, Elaine Durkin, of Jupiter, Fla.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Rev. John Parks will officiate, and military honors will be observed at the service.
