Edward “Ed” Lee Bass, 92, of Statesville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Born on April 24, 1932, in Statesville, he was the son of the late Arthur Burkett “Burt” Bass and Marie Redmond Bass.

Ed attended school in Iredell County and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Southern Screw Company, where he worked for 37 years.

Ed married Martha Jean Bennett in 1960 and remained so for the rest of his life. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Ed is survived by four children, Edward “Eddie” Bass (Tom) of Hickory, Melissa B. Stutts (Richard) of Mooresville, Rodney Bass (Cindy) of Kernersville, and Scotty Bass of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Addison Stutts, Paxton Stutts Perley, Kristin Bass Thrash, Hunter Bass, and Ciara Bass; one great granddaughter, Lyla Bass; two sisters, Shirley Beaver and Jessie St. John; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by two sisters, Elva Ostwalt and Virginia Bass; and two brothers, Roy Bass and Ken Bass.

All who knew Ed knows that he loved to talk and tell stories. He loved to be outside and could be found on his tractor, lawnmower or just sitting in his chair. Ed loved to work with his hands and built the family home himself. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brian Burgess officiating. The family will speak with friends following the service and will gather at the residence on Eufola Road.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, and online condolences may be made to the family at www.troutmanfuneralhome.com.
