Mrs. Eleanor Marie Harris Mallard, 82, of 36 Clearview Road, Taylorsville, N.C., was born in Wilkesboro, N.C., on September 9, 1942, and was the daughter of the late James Floyd Harris and Mary Louise Wade Harris. She went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Atrium Health Pineville in Charlotte, N.C., surrounded by her children and granddaughter following an extended illness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Dan W. Mallard Sr.

She was a graduate of Lincoln Heights School, Wilkesboro, N.C., and prior to her retirement she was employed by the Alexander County Department of Social Services and the Alexander County YMCA. She was a member of Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as the president of the Missionary Ministry and president of the Alexander County Union Association Usher Board. She was also the former president of the Liberty Grove Kitchen Ministry. She has also held other roles such as leader of the church beautification ministry and former Vacation Bible School teacher. Mrs. Mallard served as a board member of the Alexander County Library.

In her personal life, Mrs. Mallard was a passionate humanitarian. She enjoyed traveling, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Carolyn Harris, and brother, Felix Harris.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life four children, Gail Mallard Barker, Reginald (Ghyenne) Mallard, Olivia (Ricky) Ijames and Dan (Tayces) Mallard Jr.; three grandchildren, Latoya Mallard Alexander (State, IV), whom she helped raise, Zoe Eleanor Mallard and Chloe Emma Mallard; two brothers, Jerry (Helena) Harris and Floyd Harris; her in-laws, Ophelia (Rev. Wilford) Bailey, Robert Mallard, Sylvia (Joe) Thomas, Peggy Mallard, and Gary (Tanita) Mallard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family, neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Taylorsville, N.C.. Rev. Elliott Boston will provide the eulogy. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 until 3 p.m. where the funeral will immediately follow.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Reginald Mallard, 233 Clearview Lane, Taylorsville, N.C.
