Grace Elgevia Davis, 97, formerly of 905 Henkel Road and Brookdale Center in Statesville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House. Born January 25, 1927, in Statesville, where she lived her entire life, she was the daughter of the late John Marvin Withers and Georgia Withers.
Mrs. Davis was married for over 61 years to the late Colin V. Davis Sr. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Withers Davis of Atlanta; sister, Thelma Alexander; and brother, Arnold Withers.
Surviving members of her family include her son Colin V. Davis Jr. of Cornelius; grandsons, Colin V. Davis III (Karla) of London, U.K., and Matthew R. Davis of Rock Hill, S.C.; granddaughter, Chelsea D. Singer (Adam) of Rocky Mount, Va.; great-granddaughter, Daisy Singer; and great-grandson, Colin V. Davis IV. In addition, she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
For those that knew her, Elgevia was such a sweet, kind-hearted person who always put others’ concerns above herself. She was an avid bridge player, known to host many bridge nights at her home on Henkel Road and later at Brookdale Assisted Living. Mrs. Davis used her talent and love of music by serving as the organist for Race Street United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She also played for numerous weddings and funerals throughout her life. In addition to being an organist, she was very active in her church (later Broad Street UMC) and volunteered to support community needs in organizations such as Meals for Wheels.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 W. Broad Street, Statesville, NC. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service.
