It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Powell Knox, 81, of Mooresville, N.C., who left this world on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House. Born on May 29, 1943, in Iredell County, N.C., Frank was the beloved son of Graham Watts Knox and Mary Elizabeth Purser Knox.
A career which started in clothing sales eventually led him to belt design, manufacturing and sales. But it was his service to his community that truly defined him. A lifelong member of Fair View United Methodist Church, he was referred to lovingly as the “Mayor of Mt. Mourne” for his warm presence and commitment to others. A proud member of the National Guard, Frank embodied the spirit of service in everything he did.
Known for his generous heart, he found joy in visiting those in hospice, hospitals, nursing homes and especially attending funerals, offering comfort and companionship to those in need. He had a passion for the outdoors and a love for 4H. Frank’s support for local organizations, including Crossnore Communities for Children and the Hope of Mooresville (HOMe), revealed his deep commitment to bettering the lives of those around him, particularly children. Frank loved to love.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Hollis and James Knox; his sister, Hilda Ann Stutts; and niece, Jennie Brown.
He is survived by his devoted partner, Becky Deal; nieces and nephews, Joe Knox (Robin), Mark Knox (Julie), Becky Willard (Harold), Lisa Carver (Bobby), Tracy Lentz (Scott), John Stutts and Lori Stutts; great nieces and nephews, Jeremy Knox, Holli Jo Wilkins, Joseph Knox, Brittany Wilhelm, Melody Sentelle, Drew Willard, Garth Willard, Jamie Brown, Jessie McConnell, Amber Wood, Josh Carver, Laura Rollings, Joe Lentz and J.C. Stutts. Special friends include the Napolean Lowery Family, the Gaston Tuck Family and Valle Crucis neighbors, who cherished him deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit that will not be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Fair View United Methodist Church in Mooresville, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life and the countless ways he touched the lives of others. Following the service, Frank will be laid to rest at his final resting place at Fair View United Methodist Church, Mount Mourne, N.C., allowing his spirit to forever remain in the community he loved so dearly. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.
In this time of sorrow, we invite everyone who knew Frank to come together to honor his memory and reflect on the profound impact he made in our lives. Keep his spirit alive by remembering the kindness he extended to all and the love he freely shared.
