Frederick Neal Wanke, 76, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.

He was born October 20, 1948, in Vincennes, Ind., to the late Paul Wanke and Flavia Neal Wanke.

Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Crew Chief for NASCAR for various race teams for over 45 years. He was an avid golfer and worked part time for Mooresville Golf Course after his retirement from NASCAR. Fred enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Lois Mathis Wanke; children, Charlene Brown, Greg Wanke, Joe London (Jennifer), and Jocelyn London (Joe); grandchildren, Troy Brown (Danielle), Brandon Brown, Allison “Allie” London, Noah London, Zachary “Zach” London, Avery London, Samuel London, Olivia “Livy” London, Ella Andrews and Griffin Andrews; great-granddaughter, Tilly Rayne Brown; and his precious fur baby, Momma B.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at a later date.
