Gary Lee McGee, 72, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Garner, N.C., peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 7, 1951, in Raleigh, N.C., son of the late Otha and Rudine McGee. Gary’s early years were spent on the family farm in Angier, N.C., where manual labor and outdoor adventures were bountiful. Gary was a graduate of Garner Senior High School and N.C. State University. He was a proud member of the ROTC at both schools. Following his graduation, Gary earned many Top Sales and Presidents Club awards throughout his 35-year career with Schering-Plough, now known as Merck. Gary had a long successful career full of travel, plan-o-grams, and expense reports. He was the go-to guy for financial advice and an avid weekly movie-goer. His favorite past-times were talking football with his son Jason, watching golf, and relaxing under an umbrella at the beach with his wife and grandkids. He always supported his daughters, Heather and Celena, in their equestrian activities even though he never rode. Some of his favorite foods were Dr. Pepper, Twinkies, BBQ, and vanilla ice cream. After retirement, he spent his days filled with trips on the boat, traveling with his wife and family, yard work and attending all the grandkids’ activities.

Most important to him was his family, and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend.

He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors and his wife of 16 years, Debra Outlaw; children, Jason McGee of Raleigh, N.C., Celena McGee of Garner, N.C., Heather Roebuck and husband Brian of Jamesville, N.C.; step-children, Natalie Snider and husband Chad of Rockwell, N.C., and Christopher Mince of Bessemer City, N.C.; sister, Sherry Johnson of Garner, N.C.; grandchildren, Wyatt and Ty Snider, Brody and Callie Roebuck, Kaylin Mince, and Tiernan Kelly.

A Celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Chaplain Russell Files officiating.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House hospice nurses, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center physicians and staff, for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House, 1325 Mecklenburg Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28115.
