Gisela Susanne Scholz Dunn, 87, formerly of Statesville, N.C., died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Atrium Health in Shelby, N.C.
She was born in Seligenstast, Germany, on January 15, 1937, to the late Emil August Scholz and Katharina Fleischmann Scholz. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Norman Dunn, and a brother, Hans Peter Scholz.
Gisela was raised in Germany and grew up during the war. Her grandfather doted on her, and she loved him very much. As a young lady, she worked as an au pair in Paris and later for Air France in Germany. Gisela moved to the United States in 1973. She immediately fell in love with the American lifestyle and loved that she could actually own land here. She built her own log cabin and was happiest when she had her fingers in the dirt, planting and tending to her flowers. She had over one thousand azalea bushes on her property that she set out herself. Gisela loved her work. She helped found MetroTech Chemicals Inc. in Charlotte, and was the top salesperson in the company for 37 years. During those years she traveled, built relationships and earned the respect of many of her peers and customers. She retired at the age of 85. She had also worked in admissions at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Gisela was a very independent lady and was generous to everyone she met.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Deirdre Guerrierro (Patrick) and Norma Brock; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a special nephew, Thorsten Scholz and his wife Christina and their children, Lina and Luisa. She also leaves several family members in Germany.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick Guerriero officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dunn family.
