Gothard “Goth” Albertis Overcash Jr., 90, of Mooresville, N.C., peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 27, 2024. He was born on April 19, 1934, in Mooresville to the late Gothard Albertis Overcash Sr. and Leona Pierce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Overcash and James Overcash, by a previous marriage and brother, Paul David, and sisters, Alma Overcash, Lucille Hendren, Pauline Overcash, Ramona Powers, and wife Linda Overcash.
He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Mooresville.
As an original PSL owner, he was a diehard fan of the Carolina Panthers. He always enjoyed going to home games and pulling for his favorite team.
He joined the Army after high school and worked as an office clerk where he received the GI bill for college. He then went on to play football for Gardner Webb before returning home to work in Overcash Shoe Shop briefly when his father was injured. Once his father could return to work, he returned to school. This time at Western Carolina College. He also played football as a Catamount. He graduated from Western Carolina with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He retired from Hoechst Celanese in Salisbury after 23 years. He worked in the Overcash Shoe Shop until he retired.
He is survived by sister, Beatrice Baxter of Mooresville; and daughter, Leigh Ann Overcash of Charlotte, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2024, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel in Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Mooresville.
