Harriet Blythe Rhodes Stewart, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 8, 1938, in Mooresville to the late Willis Rhodes and Rebecca Reid Rhodes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Willis Rhodes.
Harriet was a member of Southside Baptist Church and taught the Happiness Sunday School Class for many years. She was employed by the Mooresville Graded School District in the initial pilot of the year-round school program. She would eventually retire from MGSD, which allowed her to enjoy her favorite things, spending time with her children and grandchildren and time with her lifelong friends, known as the “Ya-Yas.” She also worked at Mooresville Little Folks School and First Presbyterian Church preschool program. She lived a life of service to others.
Harriet is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Glenn William Stewart; children, Jeff Stewart (Sherree) and Lynn Stewart Towery (Tim); grandchildren, Will Towery (Chelsey) and their children, Henry and Lily, Kelsey Towery, and Chance Towery (Sara); and sisters, Pat Culberson and Betty Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, with Pastor David Klinedinst officiating. A Celebration of Harriet’s Life will follow the service also at the church.
