Hazel Sprinkle Weisner, 104, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024, at The Greens at Maple Leaf.

Hazel was born October 27, 1919, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late James Elliott and Leola Mayberry Sprinkle. She attended Westglow School and graduated from Central High School Class of 1937 and was valedictorian of her class. She furthered her education at Women’s College (UNC Greensboro) and Appalachian State Teachers College. On November 10, 1940, she was married to Benjamin Erastus Weisner, who passed away in 2005. Hazel was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and headed Bible school. She was a homemaker and also managed the cafeteria at Union Grove School. She was a longtime member of the Union Grove Homemakers Club for over 50 years and also served as a previous President. She also served on the Iredell County School Community Board. Hazel also served as President of the Union Grove PTA. She was very patriotic and voted every year that she was eligible to do so, including the 2020 presidential election and the 2022 midterm elections.

She is survived by five children, Tony Weisner (Brenda) of Mooresville, Sidney Weisner of Statesville, Susan Godfrey (Randy) of Mooresville, Reggie Weisner (Vanessa) of Statesville, and Brent Weisner (Liz) of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Tonja Recktenwald (Marc), Nicole Winecoff (Bo), Matthew Weisner (Jennifer), Adam Weisner (Sara), Lee Godfrey, Jay Godfrey (Amanda) and Emma Weisner; thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Karen Nance; one brother, Fleet Sprinkle (May); and four sisters, Eula Pope (Albert), Reba Fox (Virgel), Alma Harmon (Paul) and Chloe Sprinkle (who died at the age of three).

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 3 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Josh Byrd and Rev. Joey Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Hazel’s memory to the Cemetery Fund at New Prospect Baptist Church, 509 Prospect Road, Statesville, NC 28625; Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
