Hugh Roy Beaver, 71, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House.

He was born August 1, 1952, in Mooresville to the late Hugh Leon Beaver and Helen Christine Church Beaver.

He graduated with the Class of 1970 from Mooresville High School. Hugh attended the Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte, N.C., and later went to work for WHIP Radio as a Disc Jockey and Sports Director. At the School of Broadcasting, Mike McKay of  WBTV was his teacher and mentor. His life revolved around sports and his church. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mooresville.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Debra Stikeleather Beaver; aunts, Anne Church Smith, and Joan Church Sherrill; brothers and sisters in law, Robin & Alan Harpe, Steven and Joan Daniels, and John Grier Stikeleather (Linda) and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be on Friday, January 12, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Pitts and Rev. Eddie Hicks officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. also at the funeral home.
