On May 22,2024, Mr. Hugh Shirik Gaither, 49 of Statesville, N.C., departed this life and entered into eternity at his home.
Born on May 5, 1975, in Iredell County, N.C., he was the youngest son of loving parents, Mr. Hugh Gaither and Mrs. Thomasene Tuner Gaither.
Shirik attended Harmony Elementary School and North Iredell High School. As a child, he attended Piney Grove AME Zion Church with his family.
Shirik was a sharp dresser, loved his baseball caps and took pride in his appearance even when his health began to decline. One of his most enjoyable hobbies was fishing.
Shirik lived his life on his terms. He was a straight talker, and his words would sometimes be very sharp. Yet beneath his tough exterior the ease and willingness in which he would say “I’m sorry” and “Thank you” made you know he had some good inside him.
Shirik was loved by his family and friends, who will always remember that he was his own man. POINT. BLANK. PERIOD.
Shirik was preceded in death by his parents and by two infant daughters, Shirrika Nicole and Precious Unique Gaither.
He is survived by a loving family, including his sons, Tashon Shirik Gaither (Destiny) of Statesville, La’Brian O’neil Gaither and Chaselon Sharod Gaither, both of Mooresville, Patrick Kiser (Iyanna) of Charlotte, and Christian Redmond of Mocksville; his daughters, Monekia Clement of Mocksville and Cheyenne Thomasene Gaither of Harmony. Also surviving are Shirik’s grandchildren, Kharif McClelland Jr., Kaden Howell, Kensley Hairston, Cameron Gaither, Rosalyn Gaither, Dominic Kiser and Zavier Kiser; his brothers, Patrick Turner of Mocksville, Derek Gaither of New York and Clifford Gaither of California; and his sisters, Victoria Turner Brown (Steve) of Salisbury and Janice Gaither Nichols (Richard) of New York. Shirik has two special aunts, Ms. Clara Rankin and Ms. Otelia Tuner, along with a devoted friend, Miss Peggy Ramseur; a special cousin, Denise Brown; a special friend Demetris Thompson; and a host nephew, cousins relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Piney Grove AME Zion Church in Harmony, N.C. The Rev. John Phifer will be officiating. His sister Victoria Brown will give the Eulogy. The family will have a visitation from 2 to 2:30 p.m. The service will start at 2:30 p.m.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gaither family.
