Mr. Jackie Gaither, 86, beloved son of the late Hunter and Jency Carson Gaither, was born in Iredell County on May 4, 1938. He entered into eternal rest on November 8, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.
Jack, as he was affectionately known, was educated at Unity High School in Statesville. He was employed at the United States Post Office and JC Penney Distribution until his health declined. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hamptonville, N.C. When Mr. Gaither was younger, he was a member of the Mason Lodge. He enjoyed carpentry work, fishing, hunting, motorcycles, fast cars, and he was very passionate about cooking. He was always there to help whenever and wherever he could. Jack enjoyed talking to people and was very well known.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Jackie Gaither Bailey and Daphanie Barnes; six brothers, Frankie Gaither, Charles Gaither, Flake Gaither, Brady Gaither, Hunter Gaither, and Opah Gaither; six sisters, Beulah Gaither, Raynell Eccles, Mary Ann Gaither Rose, Pocchanas Gaither, Gwendolyn Gaither James and Lois Wilson; four grandchildren, Derryck Turner Sr., Antonio Miller, Eric Brown, and Quincy Brown; one great grandchild, Derryck Turner Jr.
Jack leaves to cherish the memories of his life six sons, Artis (Karen) Gaither, Gary (Patricia) Gaither, Keith (Sherry) Adams, Robert (Ruby) Stevenson, all of Statesville, N.C., and Gilbert (Stephanie) Summers and Jeffrey Brown, both of Pennsylvania; six daughters, Shelby Leazer, Judy Nesbit of Troutman, N.C., Sherrie (Randy) Adams, Valarie (Ty) Gibbs, Crystal (John) Smith, Sylvia Costner, all of Statesville; one brother, Grady Gaither of Harmony, N.C.; one sister, Annie Bell Redmon of Harmony, N.C.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gaither; 37 grandchildren, Kendall Gaither, Tega Turner, Ebony Millsaps, Gary Gaither, Gavin Gaither, Tandra Gaither, Taleighta Gaither, Tara Gaither, Lashawn Gaither, Kelvin Nesbit Jr., Terrance Adams, James Murdock III, Keith Dashawn Adams, Brandon Adams, LaKeitha Mintz, Khya McCrorey, Tyrah Brown, Tureq Brown, Tavia Speller, JaKira Bailey, Shacoya Summers, Tiffany Summers, Isaiah Summers, Sonjah Summers, Chantelle Rushing, Jeffrey Williams, Keiesha Mack, Queen Tult, Jayce Brown, Quinn Brown, Alana Barnes, Jalen Barnes, Robert Stevenson Jr., Jeremie Stevenson, Ciara Stevenson, Mickey Holland, and Eusheka Holland; and a host of other great grands, great great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Christian Outreach of the Piedmont. Bishop Glen J. Usry is Pastor and Reverend Tyrone Redmon will officiate. Mr. Gaither will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 1:30 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
