James Clarence “JC” Jenkins, 80, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Iredell County on October 26, 1944, to the late Ephraim Lester Jenkins and Hattie Augustus Jenkins.
He retired from Piedmont Stone Center as a truck driver. He enlisted in the United States Army from November 30, 1963 – December 23, 1970, receiving several medals while enlisted, including sharpshooter (M-1), (2) OS Bars (Overseas Service Bar), Expert M16, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and was a former volunteer for Trinity Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Jenkins, eleven siblings, and his dog Pepper and horse Trouble Spots.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol Mayberry Jenkins of the home; one son, Jamie Jenkins, and wife Charity of Hiddenite; two daughters, Denise Wooten of the home and Jan Rodecker and husband Von of Statesville; eight grandchildren, Haley Brewer (Sean), Brittany Sharpe, Cody Ward (Kelly), Madison Weber, Taylor Weber, Michaela Joyce, Hunter Joyce and Ashley Jenkins; four great-grandchildren, Bryson Ward, Bristol Ward, Shayla Brewer, and Haven Brewer; and his best friends, Rambo and Bubba.
JC never met a stranger and was a friend to many.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 30, 2024, at St. Mark Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Pastor Dale Milstead and Pastor Ricky Safriet will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Yadkin Baptist Cemetery with full military rites.
