James Pomp Hunt, affectionately called “Buddy,” was born in Beckley, W.Va., on January 17, 1951, and was the son of the late James Hunt and Mary Louise Keaton. He departed this life on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, N.C., following an extended illness. He was married to Janice Mayberry Hunt, who survives.

He attended North Iredell High School and UNC Charlotte. He served with the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Shiloh AME Zion Church.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Monday, September 23, 2024, at Shiloh AME Zion Church. Reverend Dr. Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Gainer, Pastor, will officiate. Mr. Hunt will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m.

Burial will follow on Tuesday morning, September 24, 2024, at The National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C., at 11:45 a.m. with full Military Rites.
