James “Jim” Wayne Shrader, 67, of Mooresville, N.C. and formerly of West Richland, Wash., and Greer, S.C., passed from his earthly life on September 14, 2024.

Jim was born to Wayne and Vera Shrader on May 5, 1957, in Wolf Point, Mont., where he led a happy childhood surrounded by his three siblings, Patricia, Kevin, Ann, and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. In 1973, the family moved to Billings, Mont., where Jim finished out his high school education.

Jim moved to Bozeman, Mont., in the fall of1975 to attend Montana State University, where he met his eternal companion, Debra “Debbie” Nelson. They were married on July 31, 1976, and welcomed two children, son Rodney and daughter Amanda, while he completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science.

In 1981, Jim relocated his family to Richland, Wash., after accepting his first full-time position as an Information Technology Specialist with the Rockwell Hanford Company. Son Zachary was welcomed in 1984. What was originally thought to be a temporary move resulted in 30 very happy years living and working in both Richland and West Richland.

Jim and Debbie began a new chapter in 2011, when they moved to Greer, S.C., to be closer to children and grandchildren. There, Jim continued to work in Information Security for the Fluor Corporation. In 2021, he decided to take advantage of work-from-home opportunities and relocated once more to Mooresville, N.C., where he planned to finish out his career until retirement. Jim loved and embraced Southern culture and was happy to be able to experience a new adventure with Debbie by his side.

Jim was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1976 and served diligently and faithfully throughout the rest of his life in a variety of capacities, including Primary and Youth Sunday School teacher, Scout Leader, Sunday School President, Ward Clerk, Ward Executive Secretary, Elders Quorum President, and as a counselor in several Bishoprics. He also recently completed a service mission as a Pathways Leader with Debbie as his companion. Some of Jim’s most cherished relationships resulted from his service in the Church, resulting in a legacy of love and service.

Jim was most known for being willing to help anyone with anything at the drop of a hat. His outgoing personality allowed him to make a new friend everywhere he went. Above all else, Jim was a loving husband, father, and most especially, grandfather. He was always happiest when he was around his grandchildren and finding opportunities to spoil them. He loved to take them on outings to zoos, aquariums, museums, theme parks, and sporting events, and showed up to every game, performance, recital, and graduation that he could.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Vera Shrader; mother-in-law, Marlene Nelson; and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Shrader of Mooresville, N.C.; son, Rodney James Shrader (Gary Zinter) of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Amanda Dawn Burnett (Wade Burnett) of Mooresville, N.C.; son Zachary, Michael Shrader (BethAnn Shrader) of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandchildren, Jacob Burnett, Anna Burnett, Cole Burnett, Preston Shrader, Maxwell Shrader, Kayla Burnett, and VeraLynn Shrader; siblings, Trish Loken (Duane) of Billings, Mont., Kevin Shrader (Kathleen) of Oregon, Wis., and Ann Christiaens (Dean) of Valier, Mont.; and a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial will be held in Jim’s honor on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 148 Lazy Lane in Mooresville. The family will receive guests beginning at 9 a.m. in the Primary Room and the service will begin at 10 a.m. in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or local Ronald McDonald House.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to all the beloved family, friends, colleagues who have reached out to offer love and support and honor Jim’s memory. Your kindness and compassion during this most difficult time will not be forgotten.
