Janice “Jan” Lou Wilson Jones, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She was born on July 24, 1940, in Knoxville, Tenn. She was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Ernest and Mildred Olivia Runyan Wilson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ervel, who passed away on May 7, 2022. They married each other secretly on August 17, 1959, in Bland, Va. Jan was preceded in death by her brother, John Heenan Wilson; sister, Sharon Lynn; daughters Lisa Reneé and Janna Lynn; and a grandchild.
Jan was a devoted mother to her children, Janna and Jeff. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Jeannie; sister, Roberta Meek; her grandchildren, Caitlin (Mat), Andrew (Sarah) and Ashley (Michael); along with five great grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
Jan graduated from Welch High School in Welch, W.Va., in 1958 and attended Concord University in Athens, W.Va. Jan’s life was a testament to her faith and dedication. As a preacher’s wife, she supported her husband in his ministry with grace and strength. Jan’s musical talents were evident as she served as the church pianist for many years, sharing her love of music with the church.
Jan was known for her exceptional baking skills, especially her pound cakes, her love of gardening, and her passion for reading. Alongside her husband, she dedicated much of her life to serving the church family and community, often visiting those who were sick or recovering.
Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Jan’s life was a beautiful example of devotion to family and faith. Jan’s gentle spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed by her family. Her memory will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
A memorial service to celebrate Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 12 until 1 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Avenue, Statesville.
