Janice Camillia Lawing Thornton, 91 of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 21, 2024, with loved ones surrounding her. She was born in Gaston County, N.C., on March 30, 1932, to the late Sinclair Lawing and Eunice Broome Lawing, and was also preceded in death by her husband, John William Thornton.
Janice retired from Elmers, where she was a customer service representative. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Lake Norman Security. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and taught the five-year-olds Sunday School Class for many years. Janice was a gregarious lady. She enjoyed playing gin rummy, and she loved chocolate. Janice was truly a fine Southern lady who knew how to make others feel welcomed and loved.
Those left to cherish her sweet memory include two daughters, Anne Thornton Ellenburg, with whom she made her home for many years, and Pam Aman and her husband Charlie; two grandchildren, Erin Owens and Kevin Aman; one beloved great-grandson, Cooper Owens; and her precious fur baby, Ollie.
Graveside Services will be held Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Cannada officiating and William Morgan giving the eulogy.
