Mrs. Janice Williams Bailey, 75, of Jones Street, Statesville, N.C., passed away at her residence on Sunday morning, January 14, 2024, following an extended illness. She was born on May 11, 1948, and was the daughter of Alma Gene Scott Williams and the late Willie Maceo Williams Sr. She was married to the late Ernest Kelly Bailey, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Unity High School and Livingstone College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. She was a teacher at Catawba County Schools, and she was a member of Shiloh AME Zion Church.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, in addition to her mother, Alma Scott Williams, one son, Brian Bailey; three grandsons, Devonate Bailey, Patrick Bailey and Sayla Bailey; two great grandchildren, Kadyance Bailey and Damigeo Gillespie; two brothers, Rev. William M. (Rhonda) Williams Jr. and Elder Keith Williams, both of Statesville; two sisters, Gloria (Johnny) Brown of Raleigh and Jeanita Gray of Statesville; her caregivers, Joy Barber, Heather Bailey and Christine Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, January 1, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh AME Zion Church in Statesville, N.C. Rev. Dr. Patricia Gainer will officiate, and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times. Members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
