JB Fullen, a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 81 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on November 16, 2024, after bravely facing a period of declining health.
Born on January 7, 1943, in McDowell County, W.Va., to parents Herbert and Thelma Artrip Fullen, JB had a fulfilling career as a machinist in the coal mining industry with the Pocahontas Fuel Company and was an active member of the UMWA following his dedicated service in the U.S. Navy. His love for NASCAR, country music, and Pontiac cars showcased his vibrant spirit and passion for life. He could often be found listening to his favorite country music artist and family friend T. Graham Brown. A true family man, JB cherished moments spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored and who affectionately referred to him as PawPaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Timothy J. Fullen; sister Laverne Saddler; brothers Herbert Jr., Robert, Bill, and Jerry Fullen; beloved granddaughter Destiny Fullen; and great grandson Dezmon Wyatt.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Farmer Fullen; children Elizabeth D. Fullen, JB Fullen Jr. (Sandy), and Jamie B. Fullen; brother, Benny Fullen; grandchildren Trea, Amber, Caroline, Tori, Matthew, Robbie, Allie, Joey, and Dahlia; great-grandchildren Aiden, Cameron, Colton, Jet, Shasta, Mallory, and Finn; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held to honor JB’s memory.
