Mr. Jerry Allen Gibbs, 80, of Statesville, N.C., departed this life on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Gibbs was born in Catawba County, N.C., on June 20, 1944, to the late K.B. Gibbs and Bessie Paulene Gibbs. He was married to Helen Kimbrough Patterson Gibbs, who survives.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Gibbs and Sandra Kaye Gibbs Brown; and one brother, James Gibbs.

He was a 1963 graduate of Unity High School, where he played basketball and baseball. These were his favorite sports to play. Though basketball and baseball were the sports he participated in, he loved to watch his favorite TV sport, football, and his favorite team, the Carolina Panthers.

He was employed with Fiber Industries until his retirement.

Mr. Gibbs was a faithful member of Shiloh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Choir, Chancel Choir, and co-chaired the Golden Agers group with his wife Helen. He also served on the Usher Board, was a regular attendee at Sunday School, and served as the treasurer for several years. He was a dedicated member of the Wednesday Noonday Bible Study, and a member of the Men’s Boosters Club.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, Helen Kimbrough Patterson Gibbs, Mr. Gibbs leaves to cherish the memory of his life two sons from a previous marriage, Darren Allen (Misti) Gibbs, of Maricopa, Ariz., and Jerry Wayne Gibbs of Atlanta, G.a; his sister, Margaret Brown; three grandchildren, Brandon Alshawn Gibbs, Camden Kyree Gibbs Sr., and Aaliyah Zhane Gibbs; one step grand, Mariah Jazmin Hogue; and five great grandchildren, Jay’Zhale Jar’Rion Kyree Johnson-Gibbs, JaiZiuha Camden Aquwhan Johnson-Gibbs, and Camden Kyree Gibbs Jr.; his in-laws, Nathaniel Brown, Connie Daye, Clara (Ervin) Sigmon, William (Sandra) Kimbrough, Shirley (Jerry) Hayden Sr., of Statesville, Delora (Henry) Steele of Hickory, and Samuel (Bonita) Kimbrough, and Louisa (Frankie) Miller of Statesville; and two special nieces, Ellen Bellamy and Gwendolyn Dobbins, both of Statesville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Shiloh AME Zion church, Statesville, N.C., at 12 noon. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Gainer will deliver the eulogy.
