Joelynn R. Stein, 83, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at home with family.
Joelynn was born in Carthage, Miss., on November 4, 1940, to the late Hiley Rawson and Sarah Parker Rawson. She was the widow of Dennis Stein, and sister to the late Elton Rawson, Jean Vines and Nancy Spears. Survivors include by her sister, Mary Mangrum, sister Suzi Rogers, and brother, Hiley Rawson Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Erika Moore (Chris); stepson, Greg Stein; stepdaughter, Kim Stein; grandchildren, Zachery Leslie, Elijah Leslie, Daniel Leslie and Sarah Leslie; and step-grandchildren, Jacob Spradling, Rosabella Moore, Willow Moore and Scarlet Moore.
Born in Carthage (Leake), Miss., Joelynn graduated from Carthage High School, Class of 1958. She went on to many professions, including hairstylist, stock broker and teaching parent. She traveled many places and eventually made her home in North Carolina. She dedicated her life to helping those who could not care for themselves both as a professional and later in retirement. She was a diligent employee for Uhararrie Home for Boys in Albemarle, N.C., Group Homes for the Autistic in Albemarle, N.C., and Nazareth Home for Children in Rockwell, N.C., from where she retired. She later took care of her former sister-in-law and many friends. She always gave more than she took in life and was an amazing light to so many around her. To her family, she is known for being an excellent cook, walking enthusiast, loving confidant and supportive in every way possible. She was known fondly as Meme. We will miss her deeply and know her memory will be carried on by each of us.
Family will hold a celebration of life at the home of Erika Moore. Day and time to be determined.
