John Joseph Ziznewski, 95, of Mooresville, N.C., and formally of Toms River, N.J., and Merrick and Bellmore, Long Island, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 21, 1928, to the late John and Josephine Ziznewski.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Alice, his brother Charles Vincent, and sisters Mary Daly and Frances Bydook.
John was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and served aboard the USS Salvager (ARS(D)3). He was an active member of the Merrick, N.Y., Volunteer Fire Department with Hook and Ladder Company #1 for 40-plus years. He was the president of Z&G Eagle Window Cleaning of Merrick, N.Y. He was also an active member of the Holiday Park Community Center of Toms River, N.J.
John was blessed in many ways, with longevity of 95 years, including some 74 years of marriage to his childhood sweetheart Alice Carazo, their four loving children, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three loving siblings.
John enjoyed countless long-lasting friendships extending from Maspeth, Queens, N.Y., to Merrick and Bellmore, Long Island, to Toms River, N.J., and to his final resting place in Mooresville, N.C. John found great joy in his travels across the USA and to Europe, never expecting to see so much of the world as he took in the experiences.
John was thankful, brave, and selfless as he helped so many in need over the years. He faced old age, infirmity and illness with courage and a thankful heart, never taking it for granted.
John is survived by his sons, Scott and wife Nancy of Cerillos, N.M., Thomas and wife Elizabeth of Jacksonville, N.C., and daughters, Jean and husband Tim of Mooresville, N.C., Connie and husband Rob of Mooresville, N.C., and brother-in-law, Dan and wife Nancy of Syosset, N.Y.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the Hospice nurses, physicians, and staff for their unwavering, compassionate, and supportive care that was provided. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life for John and Alice will be held for the family and friends at a later date, with interment at the Veterans Cemetery of Salisbury, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, N.C.
