John “Wyatt” Fesperman, 92, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at his home. He was born June 29, 1932, in Iredell County, to the late John Mitchell Fesperman and Rhoda Azala Poteat Fesperman.
He was the president/owner of Iredell Milk Transportation.
Wyatt was a dedicated member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was the first Fire Chief for the South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with friends. He was a pilot and had a passion for flying. Wyatt proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in 28th Infantry.
He was a member of many local clubs including the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. Wyatt received many outstanding awards. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Farmer Award from the Jaycee Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the local Rotary Club. He was on the Advisory Board of World Citrus, First Union National Bank, BB&T Bank, and Community Bank.
In addition to his parents, Wyatt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anita Moore Fesperman; sister, Lena F. Morris; and brothers, Troy Edward Fesperman, and David Sloan Fesperman.
Wyatt is survived by his children, David Fesperman (Sabrina), Betsy Pruitt (Ernest), and Nancy Alsobrook (Robert); sister, Reba F. Connolly; grandchildren, Matthew Gabriel, John (Kelly) Fesperman, Michael (Courtney) Fesperman, Sara (Kory) Barrier, Weston Pruitt and Jacob Pruitt, and seven great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state will be on Sunday, October 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Monday, October 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, October 29, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Prospect Presbyterian Church in the Family Life Center. Services will be at 11 a.m., also at the church, with Rev. Will Gipe officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery, with full military honors.
