Joyce Burrus Keever, 89, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mrs. Keever was born February 20, 1935, in Newton, N.C., to the late Bruce and Flora Plott Burrus. She was a graduate of Startown High School and the Davis Hospital School of Nursing. On June 1, 1958, she was married to Ray Hilton Keever, who died January 25, 2022.
Mrs. Keever had a long and faithful career in nursing and was employed by Davis Hospital for 41 years before retiring. During that time, she had 15 years of in-service education at the hospital. Following retirement, she worked part time for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed being a member of a book club and writing. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Keever, along with six brothers and two sisters.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Steven Keever (Kim) of Dunwoody, Ga., and Eric Keever (Carla) of Statesville. Her grandchildren are Benjamin Keever, Annabel Keever, Rachel Keever, Parks Keever, Samantha Keever, and Courtney Goble Pendergrass (Mike).
A service to celebrate the life of Joyce Keever will be conducted 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Burgess officiating. The family will visit with friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Joyce was a lovely Christian lady, whom I admired greatly. She was so intelligent, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a genuinely caring friend to all. Praying for her family.
