Mrs. Katrina “Katie” Elizabeth Barkley Millsaps, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Abernathy Laurels in Newton, N.C. She was born September 15, 1941, to Hugh Alexander Barkley and Ruby Munday Barkley.
Katie was preceded in death by eight siblings, Ronnie E. Barkley, May Hooper, Dorothy Smith, Rosalie McCreary, Hazel Rodgerson, Jane B. Robbins, Pauline Poole, and Hubert Barkley.
Those left to cherish her memory are two children, Bart Lee Millsaps and Vickie Irene Millsaps. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Dustin Lee Millsaps and Bryan Alan Corbett; and four great-grandchildren, Paxton Julius Millsaps, Tristan Vaughan Millsaps, Hudson Alexander Corbett and Blake Olivia Corbett; and the father of her children, William Vaughan Millsaps.
Katie was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and worked various jobs in the Statesville area. Her favorite hobby throughout her life was bowling. For many years she was a member of Bristol Drive Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was best known for her bubbly personality and always had a smile on her face. Those who were blessed to know Katie knew that she loved to laugh.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andy Lackey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.nicholsonfunerals.com.

I loved Katie very much. when I was a kid, I would babysit Bart. Katie would take us to Sunrise also to the beach at Lake Look-out. She also took us kids to bowl. I always had a good time! Katie was my mother’s sister. She had a great smile & would make people happy. Love, Wayne Sherrill (Bugs)
